Sport

Our sporting journey.

Come and join our ‘Get Up and Go!’

We are still running our ‘Get Up and Go!’ each morning before the school day starts. This year we have had a fantastic number of people joining in each morning, and this has created a fun and friendly atmosphere for everyone to get themselves moving before the school day starts.

Certificates are also now given out in our Friday assembly to those who attend each morning that week.

It would be brilliant to see some more new faces joining in the fun each morning, so come along to the infant hall at 8:40 ready to get moving!

Throughout the day they played some brilliant football, making their way through the rounds and eventually finishing fourth. Well done to the whole team for all their hard work, and a big thank you to all the parent helpers too.

Year 6 play brilliant football

On Friday 28th September we had our first competition of the school year; a year six football tournament organised by Wigan Athletic Community Trust. During the day our football team showed some fantastic skill and attitude, winning 4 out of their 5 group stage games, and playing some brilliant football. The team were unfortunately knocked out in the next round by the eventual winners after a very close game. All should be very proud of themselves for the football they played. Well done!

Our girls football team claimed a brilliant 3rd place in the WAFC girls football competition held at the soccer dome last Friday. The team have been working very hard during the last few weeks in preparation, and that showed in all of their performances – claiming 4 wins out of 4 games in the group stage without conceding a goal. After getting knocked out in the semi final, the team went on to win the third place play off match to confirm a third place finish out of 26 schools. Well done girls!

A great end to the half term

Last half term was very busy in terms of competitions for Nicol Mere, and also very successful! Our swimming team swam brilliantly in the Ashton Schools Swimming Gala, with each and every member returning home with a medal! Our girls team finished 2nd overall and our boys team finished 4th overall. A massive well done to those that competed.

The school also earned a fantastic result in the Wigan Schools Indoor Athletics Competition, finishing third out of 22 schools. 21 pupils from years 5 and 6 took part in the competition that consisted of both track and field events. All the pupils should be very proud of themselves for the way they competed at the event. A big well done to all.

Nicol Mere does well at Gymnastics competition

On Friday 26th February Nicol Mere sent teams from years 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 to compete at the Wigan Schools Gymnastics Competition at Leigh Sports Village. After weeks of hard work the teams each performed three different routines that were marked by judges. Each child performed to the best of their ability and were a credit to both themselves and the school.
