After getting knocked out in the semi final, the team went on to win the third place play off match to confirm a third place finish out of 26 schools. Well done girls!

A great end to the half term

Last half term was very busy in terms of competitions for Nicol Mere, and also very successful! Our swimming team swam brilliantly in the Ashton Schools Swimming Gala, with each and every member returning home with a medal! Our girls team finished 2nd overall and our boys team finished 4th overall. A massive well done to those that competed.

The school also earned a fantastic result in the Wigan Schools Indoor Athletics Competition, finishing third out of 22 schools. 21 pupils from years 5 and 6 took part in the competition that consisted of both track and field events. All the pupils should be very proud of themselves for the way they competed at the event. A big well done to all.

Nicol Mere does well at Gymnastics competition

On Friday 26th February Nicol Mere sent teams from years 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 to compete at the Wigan Schools Gymnastics Competition at Leigh Sports Village. After weeks of hard work the teams each performed three different routines that were marked by judges. Each child performed to the best of their ability and were a credit to both themselves and the school.

KS1 Gymnastics morning with Beth Tweddle MBE

4 children from years 1 and 2 got the chance to take part in a morning of gymnastics on Friday 1st December, with a special guest appearance being made from Olympic Gymnast Beth Tweddle. It was a great opportunity for some pupils who weren’t from gymnastic backgrounds to get involved and learn from one of the best in the world. The children enjoyed a great morning, and left the event excited for their next gymnastics lesson.

Primary Schools Cross Country

This morning our year 5 and 6 cross country team travelled to Leigh Sports Village to run in the annual Wigan schools cross county championships. More than 800 people attended the event, with over 180 runners competing in both the boys and girls’ races. Both teams ran brilliantly in some very muddy conditions, with Milly Scapens finishing 9th in her race and qualifying to represent Wigan at the Greater Manchester Cross Country event in February. Overall, a great day was had, and all should be very proud of themselves.
